Our Story

Our philosophy

We promote a philosophy of beautiful living. Taking a moment to enjoy the beauty of the smallest materials that surround your life. Solidarity, cooperation, curiosity, creativity, diversity, sustainability and humility specially to the planet is our expectation from ourselves.

A coloured legacy

Every object has a story to tell. It’s surface carries layers of memory; its story evolves with every telling. This is the tradition of making by hand, endemic to India where the inheritance is of possibility, of imagination by design as by practice.

Where it all started

The Shop is a family-run business producing objects of beautiful living set up in 1969 by Kamal Singh and Preminder Singh. Our inspiration is a hand crafted textile - an awakening of traditional art, an observance of individuality and the realization of living in a sacred space. Our passion is reviving crafts communities by integrating contemporary design with the expert workmanship of traditional craft. We offer an alternate to the mass produced, low quality products that have saturated marketplaces.

Yester-days at the karkhana..

We assembled experienced karigars (artisans) from all over the country in our workshop and started hand block printing textiles in 1969. Our workshop is designed with organic materials, open spaces and natural light to create a living environment that inspires artists and designers.

Today at the karkhana..

We have now added silk screen printing, hand tie and dye, hand embroidery, hand quilting and Artisan machine and chain stitch embroidery. Our product range includes apparel, fashion, interior accessories, and home furnishings.

You care:our earth

Our YOU CARE project is a conscious undertaking and a unique range where we transform every last bit of our stunning prints into beautiful products, respecting our craft people’s efforts and our earth. We are forced to be creative and innovative while looking for “green” solutions. We are trying to upcycle all our fabric waste - our small commitment towards a more sustainable future.
